Henrietta's Story
Rereading Henrietta’s story, it reminds me of conversations we would have when she would come into my office feeling stressed out about life. I would remind her how far she’d come and give her advice for the moment. Seeing her at her place of work in the community from time to time makes me smile now. ~Scott
Rising from the Ashes: Henrietta's Journey to Self-Reliance and Renewal
Henrietta spent a year and a half at Bletzinger House, which she came to call home. Initially overwhelmed by a toxic relationship, her first assessment was cut short. However, she soon committed to the program, focusing on mental health and sobriety. Despite initial resistance and secret communications with her ex-boyfriend, she gradually redirected her focus with the help of staff, concentrating on personal goals like staying sober, seeing her son more often, and eventually living independently. This support helped her rebuild her self-esteem and see herself as a whole without her ex-boyfriend.
Throughout her stay, Henrietta faced many challenges, but she succeeded with the unwavering guidance and reassurance from the Bletzinger House staff. As her mental health stabilized, she began making significant strides, such as getting a job, learning the bus system, and eventually buying a car. By the time she left, Henrietta had transformed into a self-reliant individual, ready to thrive in her new life, a testament to her hard work and the invaluable support she received from Bletzinger House.
